We’re Jade and Emily - the duo behind Melody, the world’s first menstrual health journal designed to guide you through every season of your cycle.

Our mission is simple: make menstrual cycle awareness mainstream. We believe everyone who menstruates deserves to understand their hormones, their inner rhythms, and how to support their body best.

Harmonise with your hormones. Live Hormoniously™.

Our story

How it all started

For Jade, the journey began at the age of ten, when she experienced her first period. Like so many, she was handed a pad, given the basics of reproduction, and told to get on with it.

No one explained that hormones ebb and flow in a rhythm that shapes energy, mood, focus, and needs on a day-to-day, week-to-week basis.

It wasn’t until her thirties, after years of trial and error, that Jade discovered menstrual cycle awareness (MCA) - and with it, the clarity and compassion she had been missing.

By journalling daily in tune with her cycle, she began to spot patterns in mood and motivation, separate hormone-related shifts from everything else, and make smarter choices about work, rest, food, movement, and boundaries.

This transformation was too powerful to keep to herself. She started sketching templates, testing routines, and sharing them with friends - the seed that would eventually grow into Melody.

From paper to prototype

At first, Jade experimented with pen-and-paper journalling. But she wanted more: the ability to capture custom data conveniently, without the fertility-first framing of existing period trackers, and to unlock the in-depth analysis and AI-powered predictive insights that only digital could offer.

However, with no technical background and a shoestring budget, progress was slow. She spent months building on Bubble.io, only to discover it wasn’t suitable for native mobile apps. Back to the drawing board, she pivoted to Flutter Flow - all while freelancing on the side.

The turning point came in 2024, when she joined a local Flutter meetup hosted by Emily. Despite Jade’s disclaimer that she wasn’t a developer, Emily encouraged her to come along. They talked, swapped ideas, and two weeks later, Emily surprised Jade with a working app version of the wireframes.

Jade half-joked: “So, you’re my co-founder now?!” And the rest, as they say, is history.

Then there were two

Emily brings over six years’ experience in mobile app development, and - as a fellow mum navigating family life and cyclical living - lived experience to match. She adds a passion for evidence-informed wellbeing and the same fire to make MCA mainstream.

Together, we’re building not just an app, but a movement - one that helps people tune into their inner rhythms and harmonise with their hormones.

“As someone who experienced menarche at 10, menstrual cycle awareness would have been a lot more helpful than the condom-on-a-banana reproductive health education that I actually received.”

— Jade

Why it matters

Menstrual Cycle Awareness (MCA) is a simple yet life-changing practice that involves understanding the phases of the menstrual cycle and making informed choices that support them.

In plain terms: Know your phase. Understand your needs. Live in sync with your rhythm.

Why it matters:

  • Helps you pace your energy and protect your mental health

  • Invites self-compassion on low-ebb days and celebration on high-flow ones

  • Enhances communication at home and at work

  • Prioritises proactive, preventative care over reactivity

MCA belongs everywhere: in homes, classrooms, and workplaces. It should be as familiar as brushing your teeth.

Our Promise

Inclusive by design. When we say “women”, we always mean anyone who menstruates.

Compassion first. Our unique worldviews and lived experiences bring distinct strengths to the table every day. We see this diversity as a gift - respecting differences, finding ways to grow together, and treating every person (team, community, or app user) with dignity. We honour the whole person - mind, body, and soul.

Collaboration. There’s room at the table for all our sisters and allies. Real, lasting change requires unity and collective effort.

Science-aware. We follow the evidence, speak plainly about what’s known (and what isn’t), and never offer medical advice.

Empowerment & body autonomy. We empower users by helping them spot patterns in their own data, while sharing trusted, evidence-based resources to support hormonal health and informed choices.
